MANILA, Philippines: Romulo "Romy" Mariñas, who served as a desk editor for The Manila Times, has died, according to a relative who called the Times on Saturday.

Mariñas was 74 years old.

With The Times, he served as a desk editor and edited the News, Regions and Opinion sections of the paper. He had also contributed columns in the Times' opinion and sports sections.
