London, Feb 12 (UNI) The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), part of the country's navy, said on Monday it had received information about an attack against a vessel 40 nautical miles south of the Yemeni port of Mocha, adding that the crew was safe.

"UKMTO has received a report of an incident, 40 m south of Al Mukha, Yemen. The master reports that his vessel was attacked by two missiles. The crew is reported to be safe, and the vessel is proceeding to the next port of call," the agency said in a statement.

Other vessels were advised to transit with caution and inform authorities about any "suspicious activity," the agency added.

The Houthi movement, which controls large parts of northern and western Yemen, vowed in November 2023 to attack any ship associated with Israel until it halts military actions in the Gaza Strip. This led US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin to announce the creation of a multinational operation to secure navigation in the Red Sea. US and UK forces later launched major strikes against Houthi positions in a bid to degrade the rebels' ability to target commercial vessels.
