Dhanbad: Raj Kumar Das, 17, a Class X student and resident of Kochakulhi under the Saraidhela police station of the district, died by suicide after a scuffle with some youths from the same village during an idol immersion procession late on Friday night, police said.

Based on a written complaint lodged by the victim's father Kishore Das, police have lodged a case of abetment of suicide under Section 306 of the IPC against six named and many unnamed youths of the village.The six accused are absconding. According to Kishore, Raj Kumar was badly beaten up by other village youths during a Saraswati Puja immersion procession on Friday night. When he got the information, he rushed to the spot, saved his son from further assault and brought him home. Later, Raj Kumar locked himself in a room.

When there was no response, Kishore broke open the door and found him hanging. He was declared dead at SNMMCH, Dhanbad. Kishore alleged that Raj Kumar felt so insulted that he decided to die and blamed the village youths for his death.
