Guwahati: The CID of the Assam Police has summoned two Congress leaders for questioning in connection with a case registered in January after a clash took place with the police during the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Guwahati.

The leaders are Congress MLA from Sarukhetri assembly constituency Jakir Hussain Sikdar and general secretary of the party's Guwahati city wing, Ramen Kumar Sarma.They have been asked to appear before the investigating officer at 11.30 am on February 23.

A suo moto FIR was lodged by the police at the Basistha PS in Guwahati against Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh, KC Venugopal Rao, Kanhaiya Kumar along with a few other leaders on charges of disobedience to a legal order of public servant, violation of permission conditions, obstruction to government servants while discharging their lawful duties and assault on government servants during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra on January 23.

The next day, the case was transferred to the CID for a "thorough and in-depth investigation through a SIT".
