The Philippine Footwear Federation Inc. (PFFI) extended its heartfelt appreciation to Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III and his spouse, entrepreneur Kat De Guzman Pimentel, for their unwavering commitment to bolstering and revitalizing the footwear industry, particularly in the City of Marikina, renowned as the country's shoe capital.
"We are elated to have allies in advocate Kat Pimentel and her husband Senator Koko. We are immensely grateful for their support. The revitalization of the Marikina footwear industry and the whole industry is paramount," expressed the group.
Marikina shoes are world-class and known for their craftsmanship, quality, and distinctiveness. From elegant leather designs to durable everyday footwear, Marikina shoes can compete globally.
However, the industry faces formidable challenges that hinder its ability to compete effectively in the global market.
"It fills us with gratitude to have found individuals who are committed to championing our cause. Marikina shoes are world-class but they need much-needed boost to be able to complete globally," according to the group.
The group met with Senator Koko and Kat Pimentel on Thursday for a comprehensive discussion concerning the state of the shoe industry.
"Kat Pimentel, granddaughter of the late Osmundo 'Munding' De Guzman, former mayor of Marikina, has pledged to advocate for the shoe industry, particularly for the small shoemakers in Marikina," they said.
"Her familial connection to Marikina's rich shoemaking heritage and her dedication to its advancement make her an invaluable ally in the efforts to bolster the industry's prosperity," the group said.
Osmundo "Munding" De Guzman, during his tenure as Marikina mayor, demonstrated his commitment to the local footwear industry by establishing the Marikina Shoe Trade Commission (MSTC).
This initiative, through Administrative Order No.1, Resolution No. 12 of the Municipal Council, aimed to promote footwear manufacturing across all aspects of trade.
The MSTC endeavors to support and subsidize the shoe industry, fostering increased production and enhancing the welfare of those reliant upon it, thereby enabling them to augment their income.
The PFFI looks forward to collaborating closely with Senator Koko Pimentel III and Kat De Guzman Pimentel to promote and strengthen the Philippine footwear industry.
For her part, entrepreneur Kat Pimentel expressed her advocacy for the shoe industry, particularly championing the interests of small shoemakers in Marikina.
