KARACHI- Former cricketer Basit Ali on Saturday recommended Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to consider Multan Sultans Captain Mohammad Rizwan for the captaincy of T20I national team.

Basit Ali said it is the right time for PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to entrust the national team's captaincy to wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan.

He was talking to a local private TV.

Basit Ali termed it as 'free advice' for the PCB chief, believing that the step would lead to immediate improvement in the team's formats.

The right-handed batsman criticized Pakistan's current T20I Captain Shadab Khan after Pakistan's recent 4-1 defeat against New ZealandT20I series concluded recently.

Basit Ali considered the 4-1 result unacceptable and observed a decline in Shadab's performance, which further strengthens his case.

The Karachi-born batsman believes that bold decisions need to be made promptly to ensure the national team's performance is not affected in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA.

The previous PCB administration had removed Babar Azam from the role of captain in all formats due to poor performance in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Shadab was appointed as the T20 captain, while Shan Masood was given leadership in Test matches.
