Protests erupt against 'rigging' outside Sindh Assembly - Hum NEWS

KARACHI: Opposition parties have started protesting outside the Sindh Assembly against the alleged rigging in the February 8 general elections.

The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), PTI and Muhajir Qaumi Movement (MQM-Haqiqi), have announced they will stage a joint peaceful protest outside the Sindh Assembly on the occasion of the inaugural session of the house when the newly elected MPAs will take the oath of their office at 11am.

The police detained 10 workers of the Qaumi Awami Tehreek party including women who were protesting outside the Sindh Assembly. The law enforcement officials also baton-charged the protestors.

JUI workers have also started protesting by sitting on both sides of the road on Karsaz

Traffic on Shahra-e Faisal is suspended causing inconvenience to the general public.

The road from Urdu Bazaar to Sindh Assembly has been cordoned off, only vehicles with assembly passes are going to Arts Council Square, unusual security arrangements have been made.

On the other hand, the Sindh Home Department has issued a notification imposing Section 144 for one month in the Red Zone of Karachi, under which processions and protests are prohibited at the Sindh Assembly. Strict action will be taken for violation of law.

Workers coming from Hyderabad were stopped at Karachi toll plaza, Rashid Mahmood Soomro's convoy was also stopped at toll plaza, Rashid Soomro said that we want to sit on the Sindh Assembly, if we are not allowed to go ahead. They will stage a sit-in on the motorway.

Rashid Soomro said that peaceful protest is our constitutional right which is being taken away from us, under which law we are not being allowed to enter the city?

On the other hand, the arteries leading to the Sindh Assembly have been blocked by placing containers on them. The road leading to Burns Road from the Sindh Assembly has also been blocked with containers.

The vehicular traffic coming from Fawwara Chowk, Sindh Club and Saddar will not go via MR Kiyani Chowk. Traffic police said traffic would be diverted from here towards Awan e Saddar and Khajoor Chowk. The traffic coming from II Chundrigar Road will not be allowed to go towards MR Kiyani Chowk either and will be diverted towards Khajoor Chowk or Pakistan Chowk.
