WISCONSIN RAIDS, Wis. -- The West Salem co-op gymnastics team on Friday posted its highest score during a three-year run at the WIAA Division 2 state meet, and it resulted in a second straight runner-up finish.
West Salem pieced together a score of 140.234, and it was better than eight of the 10 qualifying teams but beaten -- narrowly -- by champion Elkhorn's 140.684.
The Elks placed third at last year's state meet and jumped over West Salem behind a top-notch performance from Kaylee Frank, who was first all-around (36.85) after winning the uneven bars (9.367) and placing second on the floor exercise (9.2).
West Salem was led by senior Morgan Siekert, who was third all-around (36.067). That score was anchored by a second-place showing on the vault (9.317).
West Salem's Natalie Peterson was seventh all-around (35.233). Peterson was also fifth on the balance beam (9.133).
