Jharkhand shocker: Spanish woman on tour with husband gangraped in Dumka, three held

Dumka: A 45-year-old Spanish woman was allegedly gang-raped in Jharkhand's Dumka district when she was spending the night at a makeshift tent with her husband. The woman alleged around 8-10 men were involved in the crime which took place on Friday.

The woman is on tour with her husband and came to India by road from Bangladesh while going to Bihar and then Nepal. The couple decided to camp in the Kurumahat area under Hansdiha police station for the night when the incident took place, police said.

After the sexual assault, the woman informed a patrol vehicle and narrated her ordeal. She was taken to a hospital where a medical examination confirmed rape. She also had bruises on her body, police added.

Speaking to Times of India, Dumka SP Pitamber Singh said three persons have been apprehended in connection with the case and a manhunt is on for their accomplices.

Singh said the woman stopped a police vehicle at around 10.30 pm on Friday and appealed for help after which the cops took her to a hospital where doctors informed that she was raped. A case has been lodged on the victim's complaint and further probe is underway.

Police added that they did not have any information about the foreign couple visiting Dumka and the place they were residing for the night. 7-8 local youths are suspected to be involved in the gangrape.
