LIVERPOOL, U.K. -- Thanks to a recent ruling, Everton is feeling rejuvenated with just a couple of months left in the English Premier League season. They look to distance themselves from the bottom three when they host West Ham United on Saturday.

It looked like Everton was going to have to scrap and claw their way away from relegation. However, a decision to reduce the Toffees' penalty for breaching the EPL's profit and sustainability rules from 10 points to six has taken the club out of the bottom three. They are not totally out of the clear yet, as they only sit five points from 18th-place Luton Town, but now Everton knows not every contest is a must-win.

The Toffees had been playing decent football in recent weeks, only losing one of their last five matches. However, they have yet to win a league match since beating Burnley on Dec. 16, as Everton is 0-5-4 in their last nine contests.

West Ham accomplished two things against Brentford on Monday. They scored a goal, and snapped an eight-match winless drought by beating the Bees 4-2. It has been a real slippery slope for the Hammers. At one point, the club was competing for a Europa League spot, but now is trying to stay in the upper half of the league. They come into Saturday tied for seventh in the table with Brighton, eight points back of fifth-place Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton is 75-31-44 against West Ham, including stealing a 1-0 victory in west London back in October.
