Babar again challenges PTI intra-party polls

ISLAMABAD: PTI founding member Akbar S Babar again on Tuesday challenged the party's March 3 intra-party election and urged the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to declare them null and void.

He billed the intra-party polls as a black chapter in the history of intra-party polls and noted that out of 85,000 members, only 940 polled their votes.

Later, talking to reporters outside the ECP Secretariat, he said despots like Hosni Mubarak and Idi Amin would not have staged such a drama which PTI had wherein only 0.11 percent party members took part in the poll process.

The party has tried to give a touch of democracy, as it does often, by giving chance to 940 members to take part in the party elections. "We will not accept this deception come what may."

He wondered why the same party leadership got elected again unopposed and alleged the party had again played a game in the name of party elections.

Two more petitions of similar nature have also been submitted to the Election Commission by the party veteran Mehmood Khan and Muhammad Muzammil, seeking annulment of the intra-party elections and preventing leaders from using the party's platform.
