Coimbatore: An accused in a robbery case has gone missing after he came out on conditional bail. The city police have formed a special team to trace his whereabouts.

The Peelamedu investigation wing police identified the missing person as K Vinu, 20, of Balaji Nagar at Kalapatti. He was arrested in connection with two robbery cases reported in Sulur and Singanallur police station limits and lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison.

According to a police officer, Vinu obtained bail and came out of the prison on Feb 23. "He was directed to mark his signature at Sulur police station by 10am and at Singanallur police station by 4pm every day until further orders."

On March 1, the officer said, Vinu left the house on the pretext of going to the Singanallur police station to mark his signature. "But he did not return to his house. His parents searched for him at various places till Monday (March 4), but in vain. Vinu's mobile phone was also switched off."

So, his father C Christhudass, 45, a plumber, lodged a police complaint around 7pm on Monday. The Peelamedu investigation wing police registered a missing person case and formed a special team to trace the whereabouts of Vinu. "We suspect that he might have been involved in a crime along with his friends and got arrested. We are investigating the case from various angles," the officer said.
