BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Polls have closed in the California 22nd Congressional District primary that's expected to be one of the most contested races in the country later this year.

Polls closed across the 22nd Congressional District in California at 8 p.m. The district includes portions of Kern, Fresno, and Kings counties.

Four candidates are battling over the 22nd Congressional District, which is held by Hanford Republican David Valadao. Valadao is facing off against fellow Republican candidate Chris Mathys and Democratic candidates Rudy Salas and Melissa Hurtado.

CA-22 was home to one of the most expensive and highly contested races nationwide in the 2022 election cycle.
