MANILA, Philippines: Festival de Cannes or Cannes Film Festival has paid tribute to the late Jaclyn Jose. The actress made history in 2016 as the first Filipina and first Southeast Asian to win the annual film event's Best Actress award.

"On learning of the death of Filipina actress Jaclyn Jose, the Festival de Cannes remembers her face beaming with emotion when she received the Award for Best Actress in 2016 in Brillante Mendoza's Ma'Rosa," Festival de Cannes wrote across its social media platforms.

"As with so many of her roles, she illuminated this beautiful portrait of a woman, embodying it with grace and humanity," it added.

Even before her historical win at Festival de Cannes, Jose had been enjoying praises in her home country for her stellar acting prowess, particularly her trademark subtle acting style.

Among her memorable movies in her 40-year acting career include "White Slavery" (1985), "The Flor Contemplacion Story" (1995), and "Patay na si Hesus" (2016).
