The controversy arose from allegations levied by some Liberians, who claimed that Mr. Allen bore responsibility for the company's actions and failures regarding its obligations to various communities and the nation at large. However, the corporation has vehemently refuted these claims, asserting that Allen's role is not dictated by the Liberian government but rather by the company's internal processes.
Mr. Allen, who assumed his position in 2013 after a nationwide search initiated by Aureus Mining Company's CEO at the time, Mr. David Reading, has been lauded as a model employee with an impeccable service record. The corporation highlighted Allen's significant contributions to the success story of Bea Mountain Mining Corporation, which employs over 3500 Liberians.
In a statement, the corporation clarified that decisions made by the company cannot be solely attributed to one individual, emphasizing Allen's role as part of a management team responsible for running the business in Liberia. They underscored Allen's proactive approach to strengthening the company's social license in project areas and throughout the country, citing initiatives such as the Clan Development Fund, which he spearheaded.
The corporation urged those calling for Allen's resignation to desist from such actions and instead collaborate with the company to enhance relationships with host communities and the nation. They emphasized their confidence in Allen's leadership, asserting that no external pressure would influence the company to act against its employees unlawfully.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the corporation's steadfast support for Mr. Debar W. Allen as he continues to serve at the discretion of the CEO and Board of Directors.
