Erode: The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) on Friday directed Erode district collector Rajagopal Sunkara to take action against Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (KMDK)'s former candidate for the Namakkal parliamentary constituency S Suriamoorthi for his casteist remarks that went viral on social media. It also has directed the collector to send an action taken report to it within 15 days.

The KMDK, which is contesting the upcoming general elections in alliance with the DMK, had replaced Suriamoorthi with V S Matheswaran after an old video of him threatening scheduled caste youths with dire consequences if they attempted to get rich by marrying women from the Kongu Vellalar Gounder community went viral on social media.The video is said to be more than 10 years old.
