Dibrugarh: Union minister and BJP candidate for the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat, Sarbananda Sonowal, reached out to the Buddhist voters in the Naharkatia area of Dibrugarh district on Saturday.

There are approximately 11,000 Buddhist voters accounting for 0.65 per cent of the total electorate in the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency.

Accompanied by Naharkatia BJP MLA Taranga Gogoi, Sonowal paid a visit to the renowned Buddhist monastery located at the Namphake Buddhist village. The atmosphere was filled with the rhythmic beats of cymbals and drums intertwined with resonant Buddhist chantings as the community welcomed Sonowal.

He made his way to the statue of Gautam Buddha and offered prayers. "I am humbled to be here today among the esteemed members of the Buddhist community. The BJP strongly believes in inclusive governance. I will ensure that the concerns and issues of the Buddhist community are given the attention they deserve," he said.
