SINGAPORE -- An accident involving a car, a van and a motorcycle on Tuesday (2 April) saw dramatic video footage of the blazing motorcycle being circulated online.

The accident happened along Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) towards the Pan Island Expressway (PIE), before the Bukit Panjang exit, at 9.10am on Tuesday. The Singapore Police Force said that a 26-year-old male motorcyclist was conveyed conscious to National University Hospital, while a 73-year-old male car driver is assisting with investigations.

According to The Straits Times, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted of the accident at the same time, and it extinguished a fire involving the motorcycle using a compressed air foam backpack and a fire extinguisher. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

In a video of the accident posted on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page, a motorcyclist was seen falling off the bike after crashing between a car and a van on the expressway. The bike caught fire shortly afterwards, and was later seen blazing in the video.

Facebook user Jason Kwek had commented on the video post that he was passing by and tried unsuccessfully thrice to put out the fire with a towel. He had stopped on the road shoulder and got down to help, while his wife called for an ambulance.

"Unfortunately, no one who stopped had an extinguisher," wrote Kwek. He later dragged the motorcyclist away from his bike towards the centre divider on the expressway. "I left before the ambulance arrived, but by then, the fire was already 10 feet high."

According to the Facebook user, the first portion of the video posted on Facebook showing the crash was taken from his vehicle's camera.
