Ahmedabad: A doctor from Memnagar on Friday filed a complaint alleging that his cashier stole Rs 4.23 lakh from him by not depositing cash payments from patients between Dec 15, 2023, and March 26, 2024.

Rohan Bhatt, 40, runs a hospital on Gurukul Road. He stated that the accused, Jenny Thakor, a resident of Memnagar, had worked for him for six years.

Bhatt said that his cousin, who works at his hospital, told him about certain discrepancies in the accounts on March 27.Bhatt's cousin said that a patient had paid Rs 50,000 in cash, but the hospital's receipt showed only Rs 25,000.

Bhatt said several receipts were found to be missing from the accounts department. Bhatt and his staff called several patients and found that entries for their payments were not made in the accounts.

When the inquiry was underway, Thakor stopped coming to work, saying she had contracted chickenpox.

Bhatt said that after a few days, she turned up along with her family members but could not provide satisfactory answers about the discrepancies.

When Bhatt told her he would file a police complaint, she confessed to having embezzled the money.

Bhatt said he checked CCTV footage and found that Thakor would tear up the hospital's receipts after giving a copy to the patient. She was also seen putting cash in her pockets.

Bhatt filed a complaint for breach of trust and destruction of evidence against Thakor.
