JOHANNESBURG - Embattled political party, the Congress of the People (COPE) is expected to launch its 2024 elections manifesto in Hammanskraal on Saturday.

It was initially set to hold the event in March but postponed it.

Its acting secretary general Erick Mohlapamaswi said the party will share ideas on how it plans to solve the many economic challenges the country is facing.

He said many have written the party off, but it remains standing and ready to serve the country.

COPE itself has made several headlines over the past year, with its internal fractures finding their way into the public domain.

It also fired several members in 2023, including Johannesburg speaker Colleen Makhubele.

The party has fielded 63 candidates for the National Assembly.

Mohlapamaswi said COPE isn't fazed by the negative sentiments around it.

"People wished us bad so many times, this organisation died so many times and for that matter, we have survived and people cast aspersions on us. We are where we are and we are proud that we are where we are, it is how they see us but how they see us does not make us what they see in us."
