MANILA, Philippines: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday said that he will sign the Negros Island Region (NIR) bill into law.
Speaking to reporters in Bacolod City, the President said the measure, which seeks to unify Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor under one administrative region, is a "good idea."
"It's very hard to bring government services to the people and that's the reason behind the push for making it a single region, so may regional office siya na sarili (it will have its own regional office)," he added.
Currently, Negros Occidental belongs to Region VI while Negros Oriental is under Region VII, which places their regional centers in Iloilo and Cebu, respectively.
