NEW DELHI: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha's arrest by CBI has triggered speculation about Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal being next in line. The CM was arrested by ED on March 21, barely a week after the agency arrested Kavitha. Last month, opposing bail for former deputy CM Sisodia, CBI had told a court there would be some "high profile arrests" in the Delhi excise case.
Kejriwal was sent to judicial custody until April 15 by a Delhi court in a money laundering case related to now scrapped Delhi excise policy.
CBI on Thursday arrested Kavitha in a corruption case related to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy (2021-22).
Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was arrested by ED from her Banjara Hills residence in Hyderabad on March 15 and is currently in judicial custody in jail number 6 of Tihar. CBI will approach court on Friday to seek her remand for custodial interrogation.
The 46-year-old politician is accused of being a key figure in the 'south group' which allegedly paid AAP kickbacks of Rs 100 crore in return for a big share of liquor licences in Delhi and to swing the policy in her favour so that the group could enter the Delhi liquor market in a prime position. Kavitha has denied the allegations.
