CAPE TOWN - Alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack, is due to go on trial in the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday.
Modack and 14 other accused face a slew of charges related to the murder of slain anti-gang unit detective, Charl Kinnear, who was shot and killed outside his Bishop Lavis home in September 2020.
According to the State, Modack and his co-accused are also behind the murder of Nico Heerschap, the father of a Hawks officer, as well as the attempted murder of criminal lawyer, William Booth.
The State alleges that Modack, along with five of the other accused, murdered Heerschap in Melkbostrand on 9 July in 2019.
It is alleged Modack, and three of the other accused, also attempted to murder Booth on 9 April in 2020.
Then it is alleged that Modack and his co-accused masterminded the murder of Kinnear.
Modack has pleaded not guilty to 124 charges, some of which include murder, attempted murder, managing a criminal enterprise, money laundering and defeating the ends of justice.
