School Holds Classes On Holiday, Gets Notice | Ahmedabad News - Times of India

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad city district education officer on Wednesday issued a show-cause notice to a private school located in Shilaj area for conducting classes on Ram Navami, which is a public holiday as declared by state govt.

Sources said that Anandniketan School in Shilaj did not observe the holiday on Wednesday and students were called in. So the parents of a few students informed the DEO's office about it.The DEO's office issued a show-cause notice to the school management.

Earlier this month, after receiving complaints regarding schools not observing public holidays for Cheti Chand and Eid, the Ahmedabad city DEO had warned schools of strict action if they were found functioning on public holidays.

"After learning that Anandniketan School in Shilaj did not observe a holiday on Ram Navami, we called up its management and sought a justification. They initially told us the school was kept open for a religious event. However, the school has been ordered to give its explanation in writing. We will take punitive action against the school if it fails to justify its actions," Rohit Chaudhary, DEO, Ahmedabad City, told TOI.
