CAPE TOWN - A co-accused in the high-profile trial against alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack, has denied being the driver during the murder of pensioner, Nicolaas Heerschap.

Heerschap was murdered in an aparent botched hit in Melkbosstrand in July 2019 when the intended target was allegedly Heerschap's son, Nico, a former Hawks officer.

A State witness and self-confessed hitman, who can only be identified as "Mister A", testified that one of the accused, Mario Petersen, was complicit in the murder of Heerschap.

Mister A said that Petersen drove himself and another accused, Riyaat Gesant, to and from the murder scene in Melkbosstrand.

He said that Petersen later helped burn the car they used for the murder.

Petersen's attorney, Scanlyn Collins, on Tuesday, told the court his client denied being part of Heerschap's murder.
