Guwahati: The Pollution Control Board of Assam (PCBA) and the Digboi Refinery have signed an MoU to plant over six lakh native saplings in the current year on 25 hectares of land owned by the refinery as part of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL)'s target to achieve net-zero operational emissions by 2046.

"As a part of the ongoing net-zero initiative, Digboi Refinery aims for reduction by planting additional trees and creating 'environmental protection forests' through the 'Modified Akira Miyawaki' method," a statement said.

IOCL said the refinery will develop its land to make it fit for plantation under the guidance of the PCBA. The PCBA will then implement the plantation process, including selection of species and subsequent procurement and plantation.
