Gov Nwifuru Backs Establishment Of State Police | Independent Newspaper Nigeria

ABAKALIKI - Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has called on the National Assembly to support the establishment of State Police.
Governor Nwifuru made the call when he received members of the House of Representatives Committee on Army in his Office, Centenary City, Abakaliki.
He said the country had grown to an extent that central policing would not make the desired impact.
"On the issue of security, you people should help us to support the establishment of State Police because it will help the country. The country has grown so large to an extent that central policing will not control crime. State policing will give us advantage of using people who are familiar with our terrain to combat crimes in our various communities," he said
The governor charged them to strive to meet the expectations of Nigerians, stating that oversight functions should be done without compromise.
He said his administration has prioritised issue of security and rendered various supports to security agencies in the state to function effectively.
Earlier, the Leader of the delegation and Deputy Chairman, House of Repessntatives Committee on Army, Hon. Ogewu David Agada, told the governor that they were in the state to visit Army formations with a view to finding solutions to challenges facing the Officers of Nigerian Army in the state.
He commended the governor for successes he recorded in the fight against insecurity.
The committee thereafter proceeded to the 24 Support Regiment, Nigerian Army Barracks, Nkwagu, Abakaliki.
