NEW DELHI: American multinational retail corporation, Walmart is reportedly cutting hundreds of corporate jobs positions and asking most remote employees to relocate to offices.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal on Monday, the US retail giant has also requested workers at its smaller offices in Dallas, Atlanta, and Toronto to relocate to other central hubs, including Walmart's corporate headquarters in Bentonville, as well as Hoboken or Southern California.

The report states that Walmart will continue to allow staff to work remotely part-time, provided they spend the majority of their time in offices. As of January 31, 2024, Walmart employed approximately 2.1 million associates, as stated in regulatory filings.

Over the past year, the company has been taking steps to reduce its workforce and in April last year, it announced that it expects about 65% of its stores to be serviced by automation by the end of its fiscal year 2026.

Walmart closed three of its US technology hubs in February 2023 and asked hundreds of workers to relocate to keep their jobs, stressing the need for more employees to work from the office.
