Ahmedabad: As many as 14,000 students from the state have selected colleges affiliated with the Gujarat University in their registration through the Gujarat Common Admission Services (GCAS). The university will have to process these admissions through its portal 'Samarth'.

However, according to sources, the university may face problems in processing admissions as it has not made necessary preparations.Sources said that the state education department has received 4.5 lakh registrations, including 14,000 registrations for GU-affiliated colleges through GCAS.

To process these admissions, the university needs to set up an admission committee which has not yet been formed, said sources, adding, "The university also mulled hiring an agency to process admissions. Since this has not been done either, the varsity is likely to pass on this responsibility to the colleges. This decision faced opposition which led GU to call off a meeting with college principals scheduled for Thursday."

The GU admission schedule announced on Thursday states that choice filling will be conducted during the May 31-June 10 period, the university will declare provisional seat allocation between June 7 and 10. The students will have to confirm their admissions between June 13 and 21.
