ISLAMABAD: The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), while condemning acts of desecration of copies of the Holy Quran and attacks on Christian families in Sargodha, has called for exemplary punishment for those involved in both incidents.
At its 237th meeting, presided over by the Council's Chairman, Dr. Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naeemi, the CII discussed the May 25 incident in Sargodha and reiterated its past recommendation that special courts should be established to prosecute criminals involved in such crimes.
The CII meeting unanimously recommended that special courts should hold day and night trials of miscreants who are instigators and planners of such heinous crimes.
The meeting also observed the need to create awareness among people that they should not take the law into their own hands.
It maintained that the state should immediately take action against those who do, as such acts are against the teachings of the Holy Quran, Sunnah, and the Constitution.
The meeting also considered a question from the Supreme Court regarding the pardon of a convicted criminal and questions received from the Lahore High Court concerning expenses for a divorced daughter.
