AGRA: Four days after the bodies of three girls were found on a railway track near Bajna Bridge in Mathura, their families reached the city from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and identified them as their daughters.

Gauri Kumari, 14, Mohini Kumari, 14, and Maya Kumari, 13, were friends and students of Class 9. They left a note saying they were "going to the Himalayas on a spiritual quest".Umesh Kumar, the SHO of the Highway police station in Mathura, said Bihar police were handling the investigation.

Gauri's father, Amit Rajk, said that before leaving home on May 13, his daughter and her friend Maya left a letter saying, "Baba has called. Going to the Himalayas for a spiritual quest. We will return home after three months on Aug 13." They also cautioned their families against searching for them, threatening suicide.

Gauri's mother said that she didn't have mehndi on her hands when she left home, but it was found on her hands and those of her friends' bodies. Moreover, all three girls' mobile phones were missing.

Rajk also accused the Bihar police of "ignoring" the case, stating, "The local police did not take any action after we reported the girls' disappearance on the same day. They registered a case only after senior authorities got involved."

Ashok Kumar, the SHO of the Town police station in Muzaffarpur, denied the allegation. He said, "We registered a case as soon as we received the complaint. The girls left home voluntarily, leaving letters explaining their reasons for leaving. We were searching for them, and we informed their families after learning about the bodies found in Mathura."

The Mathura police had launched an investigation and sent the bodies for postmortem after finding nothing at the scene that could identify them. Initially, police speculated that the three might be a mother and daughters who had committed suicide by jumping in front of the train. The police sent information to all the police stations in the district and adjoining areas to assist in identifying the bodies.

Meanwhile, the Muzaffarpur police have established a Special Investigating Team (SIT) to probe the case, with City SP Awadesh Dixit overseeing the investigation.
