MADURAI: Kanyakumari town and Vivekananda Rock were brought under heavy security blanket on Thursday, hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives there to meditate.

More than 3,000 police personnel have been deployed as a five-tier security arrangement has been in place at Vivekananda Rock.

Ships of the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard are patrolling the seas.The boats of Tamil Nadu's Coastal Security Group are also patrolling the seas.

All the fishing activities have been suspended for three days starting Thursday morning.

Tourists entering the Kanyakumari town are screened and the vehicles are checked thoroughly. Security personnel are taking out periodic inspections in the hotels and resorts.

The ferry service taking tourists to Vivekananda Rock was stopped at 10am. The service will resume only after Modi leaves Kanyakumari on Saturday.
