Stacey-Ann Williams, Shiann Salmon win at Racers Grand Prix - Jamaica Observer

KINGSTON, Jamaica - Jamaicans Stacey-Ann Williams and Shiann Salmon were winners at the Racers Grand Prix - a world Athletics Continental Tour Silver event - at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Williams came from behind to win the women's 400m Salmon easily topped the women's 400m hurdles. Nigera's Emmauel Bamidele won the men's 400m.

Williams ran a well-timed race to catch Lynna Irby-Jackson about 30 metres from the line before powering pass the American to win in 50.86 seconds, her second fastest time of the year. Irby-Jackson was second in 51.05 seconds while Jamaican Charokee Young was third in 51.86 seconds.

Salmon, who has raced well this year, was never pushed in the 400m hurdles as she clocked 55.41 seconds to beat former World Championships medallist Cassandra Tate of the USA who was second in 55.60 seconds. Former Jamaican national champion Ronda Whyte was third with a personal best 56.19 seconds.

Bamidele caught the hard charging hurdles specialist Roshawn Clarke to nip him on the line, winning with 45.49 seconds. Clarke was second with a season's best 45.57 seconds while Zandrion Barnes was third with 45.62 seconds.
