Uttar Pradesh (UP) Election 2024 Result Live News Updates: The road to Delhi is said to pass through Lucknow, underscoring the pivotal role Uttar Pradesh plays in shaping India's political landscape. Exit polls released on Saturday indicated that the BJP-led NDA is set to secure nearly 71 out of Uttar Pradesh's 80 Lok Sabha seats, while the opposition coalition INDIA bloc is anticipated to clinch roughly 10 seats.

Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal were the sole states where the 2024 Lok Sabha elections took place across all seven phases.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ran for re-election from the Varanasi constituency, while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh sought another term from Lucknow. Smriti Irani contested from Amethi, a seat previously held by Rahul Gandhi, who now contested from Rae Bareli, held by his mother Sonia Gandhi.

Among other notable candidates were Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, who ran from Kannauj, Dimple Yadav from Mainpuri, Dharmendra Yadav from Azamgarh, Akshaya Yadav from Firozabad, and Aditya Yadav from Budaun.

Uttar Pradesh witnessed an extensive campaign from Modi, state CM Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, as well as Priyanka Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and Rahul Gandhi.

With 80 parliamentary constituencies in play, Uttar Pradesh emerges as the primary powerhouse, contributing the most to the Lok Sabha polls.

In an effort to counter the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s dominance, opposition parties have been intensively strategizing this year. The Congress and Akhilesh Yadav-led SP have formed an alliance, with the Congress contesting 17 seats while the remaining will be contested by the SP.

The BJP, bolstered by its consecutive wins in 2014 and 2019, has been working tirelessly to maintain its grip on Uttar Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and the party's organizational prowess have played a pivotal role in solidifying its position ahead of the 2024 elections.

The saffron party wants to keep control, while the Congress wants to regain its lost power in Uttar Pradesh.

The voter turnout in Uttar Pradesh was 56.92 per cent, which is two per cent lower than the turnout recorded in 2019.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the saffron party swept to victory, securing 63 seats, while the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) claimed 9, the Samajwadi Party: 5, and the grand old party captured only one seat. The BJP's resounding triumph in Uttar Pradesh highlighted its stronghold in the state, marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's second consecutive landslide win.
