CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police nabbed eight suspects on various charges related to a hijacked motor vehicle, possession of illegal guns, and theft in separate incidents over the last three days.
Police spokesperson, Joseph Swartbooi, said Maitland police officers followed up on information about a hijacking on Saturday and proceeded to a location in Kensington Road at about 11 pm.
"Upon arrival, they saw a grey Opel Corsa which fitted the description and restrained the three males close to the motor vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was hijacked in Parow earlier the same day. They detained the three males on a charge of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle."
Swartbooi said police made another arrest after responding to a shooting in Nyanga on Sunday, which resulted in a high-speed chase.
"The police members forced the driver to stop the motor vehicle. The 34-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition."
The Maitland flying squad also arrested four suspects for possession of an illegal firearm and suspected stolen goods after another high-speed chase in Montague Gardens on Sunday.
