Blantyre District Netball Committee (BDNC) Chairperson Vitumbiko Gubuduza has been earmarked to lead the Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) interim Executive Committee.
This follows a consultative meeting which Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) held with district netball committee chairpersons at Kamuzu Institute for Sports in Lilongwe in the wake of the resignation of the Nam executive committee last week.
According to our sources, Central Region Netball Committee Chairperson Yamikani Kauma has been appointed general secretary whereas Cecilia Mtukule has been named treasurer.
Others in the committee include Tamara Fweta, Fernando Ligola, Justice Katika and Margret Maluwa.
MNCS Chief Executive Officer Henry Kamata refused to give details, saying the institution will issue a press statement today.
Last week, the Nam Executive Committee stepped down after coming under fire from concerned affiliates.
In a letter which was addressed to Kamata, the Nam Executive Committee said it opted to pave the way following growing concerns from affiliates and the netball fraternity at large.
"The Netball Association of Malawi Executive Committee, having critically considered the concerns from concerned members and acting in good faith for the sake of netball, has decided to step down from office with immediate effect.
"This will allow for a new team to step in and manage the game," the letter reads.
