Dibrugarh: On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Red Shield Division of the Army organised a series of events across Tinsukia district to promote environmental conservation and sustainability among local communities and schoolchildren. The comprehensive initiative was aimed to educate and inspire individuals to take action towards preserving the environment for a better future.

The Kordoiguri Higher Secondary School in Daisajan played host to one of the events, where 200 students, teaching staff and locals gathered to participate in a lecture themed "Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience." The engaging session provided insights into pressing environmental issues like deforestation, global warming and waste management.

The lecture emphasised the three Rs -- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle -- motivating the participants to take action towards environmental conservation while inspiring them to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives.

The event concluded with the plantation of 500 tree saplings and a cleanliness drive, reinforcing the commitment to environmental health. The Army's efforts to promote environmental sustainability and community welfare were lauded by locals.

"We are grateful to the Indian Army for organising such an informative and engaging event. It's heartening to see the younger generation taking an interest in environmental conservation," said Jaya Devi, a local resident who participated in the event.
