JOHANNESBURG - The defence in the corruption case of former Sports, Arts, and Culture minister, Zizi Kodwa, has raised concerns about the leaking of documents related to the case.
It's understood that a charge sheet and other documents were leaked to the media before Kodwa made his first appearance in court on Wednesday.
Kodwa was charged with state capture-related corruption at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Palm Ridge on Wednesday.
He resigned from his ministerial position moments after he was granted R30,000 bail.
After delivering his closing statements, Kodwa's attorney, Zola Majavu, raised a matter that he said could potentially place his case in jeopardy.
He told the court that it was unfair that some media houses managed to gain access to documents pertaining to the case days before Kodwa's court appearance.
"The fact of the matter is that the media and other people other than my client have a duplicate of this charge sheet verbatim and I only got it a few minutes ago as confirmed by him. It is something that we will deal with outside of this court but I just wanted to place it on record."
In his written affidavit, Kodwa outlined that he was presented with the charge sheet moments before he entered the dock.
The former minister is scheduled to make his second court appearance on 23 July.
