NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed Himachal Pradesh to release surplus water to Delhi on June 7, with prior intimation to Haryana. The court instructed Haryana to ensure the water reaches Delhi without obstruction.

Additionally, the Supreme Court directed that there should be no wastage of water by the Delhi government and asked for a status report by Monday, June 10.

The top court allowed Himachal Pradesh to release 137 cusecs of surplus water available with it and directed Haryana to facilitate the flow of the surplus water from Hathnikund to Wazirabad uninterruptedly to Delhi to mitigate the drinking water crisis in Delhi.

Supreme court asked the Upper Yamuna River Board to measure water released by Himachal Pradesh at Hathnikund.
