Guwahati: Badruddin Ajmal's All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), which suffered a setback in the recent Lok Sabha elections by losing all three seats it contested in Assam, will now introspect the reasons behind its dismal performance or the mistakes it made in the last 19 years for which people did not give mandate to the party in any of these seats.

AIUDF was formed in 2005.

AIUDF general secretary (organizing) and chief spokesperson Aminul Islam on Friday said a fact-finding committee will be constituted soon. The panel will go to every block or mandal across the three constituencies, where it had contested, after 15 days, talk to the people and find out the reasons why the people rejected the party this time.

He added that the party has lost its support base in the state, which was proved in the recently concluded parliamentary elections. "The support base shifted to Congress this time. We have probably made some mistakes, which people will have to point out, so that we can rectify those and move ahead with new energy in the future," he added.

Badruddin Ajmal had contested in Dhubri, Aminul Islam in Nagaon and Sahabul Islam Choudhury in Karimganj Lok Sbaha constituency. Ajmal lost Dhubri to Congress's Rakibul Hussain by over 10 lakh votes, while Aminul lost the Nagaon seat to Congress' Pradyut Bordoloi by over 6.51 lakh votes. Sahabul Islam Choudhury lost Karimganj to BJP's Kripanath mallah by over 5.15 lakh votes.

Ajmal's defeat was a major setback for the party as he represented the Dhubri seat continuously from 2009.
