Silchar: Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers stormed the office of National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) in Silchar on Friday, seeking immediate repair of dilapidated roads in Silchar.

A group of TMC workers entered the office of the deputy general manager of NHIDCL, Gaurang Deoghare and asked him why there was a delay in repairing the roads.

Deoghare, startled by the situation, got into a heated argument with the workers.

TMC workers have set a deadline of June 11 for NHIDCL to repair the roads and said they would intensify their protest if their demand is not met. They also threatened to gherao NHIDCL offices.

Later, Deoghare told the TMC workers that they were entrusted with the responsibility to repair the road from Silchar's Capital Point to Sonabarighat in October, 2023. Post that, other departments started digging up the roads to set up water pipelines or build drains without their consent.
