PETALING JAYA: A third generation of metre-gauge trains from China, set to be used for the Electric Train Service (ETS), will soon be in operation on the West Coast.

The train rolled off the production line on Friday (June 7) at the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) Zhuzhou Locomotive Co. Ltd in Hunan province, according to Chinadaily.com on Saturday (June 8).

"The ETS3 will greatly increase passenger capacity and operational efficiency in the local train transit network," an electrical designer with CRRC, Ren Zewen, said.

The train adopts a 6-car formation, providing 312 seats, with a running speed of 160km per hour and a minimum radius of 100m.

He said the train has stronger power and larger battery capacity compared with the previous generation, with advanced levels of collision and fire safety performance.

The train is equipped with an intelligent driver assistance system, which can provide more economical driving strategies based on intelligent analysis of the line environment.

The project is part of China and Malaysia's Belt and Road cooperation, showcasing achievements in the field of rail transport.
