ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - It's a disturbing story about an Albuquerque man who remains in a coma. After he was brutally attacked for no apparent reason. It happened at a fast-food restaurant and has left his family searching for answers.

"Who did this to our dad?" asked Jasmine Roberts, daughter of Tim Roberts.

Questions continue for the Roberts family after a seemingly random attack on their father, Tim Roberts, left him in critical condition. "My dad is still in ICU, my dad is in a coma, he hasn't been responsive," said Renee Roberts, daughter of Tim Roberts.

Roberts was attacked last week at the McDonald's at Central and Yale in the University neighborhood. His family says he was only there to order food. "My dad just kind of goes over a little bit from the kiosk, asks the question, the man walks over there and punches my dad in the face," said Renee Roberts.

Following the attack, Roberts was responsive enough to flag down an Albuquerque Police Department sergeant. He eventually got him into an ambulance to University of New Mexico Hospital where Roberts' health got much worse.

"Anything can happen to anybody like out of nowhere and for no reason either," said Jasmine Roberts.

Roberts is disabled and new to the Albuquerque area and was receiving treatments for dialysis. His family says he has no relationship with the man who attacked him.

"It's hard to put things like that into words. You know, watching your parent get brutally attacked you know, especially a parent that old," said Renee Roberts, daughter of Tim Roberts.

Much of his family lives out of state and is still waiting for answers from police. In the meantime, they're also hoping Roberts will recover and more information on the attack will come their way. "He's just a bright spirit, funny, down to earth, and just hilarious. My dad's a very sweet dad and a really good grandpa, a really good friend," said Jasmine Roberts.
