NEW DELHI: Three policemen from the special staff unit of northeast district, including the unit head, have been transferred following allegations of hosting an Eid celebration for gangster Hashim Baba within their office premises. The action was taken after an inquiry.

According to an order by the DCP (northeast), a sub-inspector and an assistant sub-inspector were sent to district lines, while the inspector was attached to the district investigation unit."The transfers/postings in respect of the following police personnel are hereby ordered on administrative grounds with immediate effect," read the June 10 order.

"They may be relieved at once with the direction to report at their new place of posting and a compliance report may be sent to DCP office," it added.

According to sources, it was alleged that the cops had apprehended Baba for interrogation in a case and subsequently brought him to their office, where a gathering took place, attended by his associates and family members.

In light of these allegations, a senior officer had issued a directive on June 1 for a thorough inquiry into the matter. tnn
