Ahmedabad: An IT professional working in Vadodara who was in the city, was assaulted by his female friend's former boyfriend at a cafe near Pakwan Crossroads on Sunday night.

Tapan Mistry, 28, a native of Nadiad, has filed a complaint with Vastrapur police, against Suraj Avadia, 24, a resident of Rajkot. Mistry alleged that he was at the cafe with his female friend Sangita Makwana, and two others -- Vikas Upadhyay and Jaydeep Kuchadia -- when Avadia approached Makwana regarding an application she had filed with Satellite police.

Makwana, who stays at a paying guest facility in Satellite, had on June 6 filed a complaint with Satellite police after Avadia created a ruckus at her place of stay. Both Makwana and Avadia had been called to the Satellite police station to record their statements, Mistry said in his complaint.

On Sunday, Avadia came to the cafe to speak with Makwana. After talking to her for a while, Avadia insisted on speaking to Mistry, who refused. An irked Avadia began using abusive and threatening language. When Mistry objected, Avadia allegedly twisted his arm and rained punches on his face. Friends came to the rescue of Mistry, who called the police control room. Avadia fled the scene before cops arrived.

Mistry later filed a complaint of causing hurt, using abusive words and criminal intimidation against Avadia. Police are collecting CCTV footage and will record statements of witnesses.
