Don't buy favours - Kahungu

OPUWO - Swapo Party Women's Council secretary Fransina Kahungu cautioned her party members not to buy favours, but instead be genuine in their assistance.

She said this during the SPWC's central committee meeting in Kunene's regional capital Opuwo recently. "We must stop buying favours, comrades. Why must you give a regional coordinator something, who is already receiving kasomething? Yet, as you can see, this comrade at the section level is not receiving an allowance from the Swapo Party. Is that not favours? Why must you send airtime to a comrade who is already receiving airtime? But your district information and mobilisation officer is not getting anything?" Kahungu questioned.

She emphasised she has no problem with comrades assisting one another, but they should do so without expecting favours in return.

She then urged the council members to campaign and mobilise maximum support for Swapo vice president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah in her quest for the highest office in the land.

Although contested by certain quarters within their rank and file, Nandi-Ndaitwah is Swapo's presidential candidate for this year's Presidential and National Assembly elections. The former Windhoek mayor hastened to say the campaign should be done with love, and without discrimination.

"You tell everyone, and I must tell you, that some political parties are going to die very soon in Kunene region," Kahungu boasted. Kunene governor Marius Sheya, who was present at the meeting, encouraged members to ensure every person is registered to vote, irrespective of their political party. He also suggested that members should be set targets to register voters.

"I must tell you, we must never underestimate our opponents. As we are moving in these areas, we are observing that the opposition has an aggressive method of how to get people to get registered, and we need to plan as a party," he cautioned. The former Sesfontein constituency council and Swapo Kunene regional coordinator Julius Kaujova said the party remains united. He said they have deployed all the regional political office-bearers to closely monitor the process of registration.
