Lifespan, Brown University to make 'major announcement' at 9 am

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Lifespan President and CEO John Fernandez and Brown University President Christina Paxson have called a joint news conference Thursday morning to announce "significant plans" for the future of health care in Rhode Island.

A spokesperson for Lifespan said the goal is to "strengthen top-quality patient care, medical education and biomedical research." Target 12 first reported last fall that the two organizations were in talks about rebranding Lifespan as "Brown Health."

The announcement will be made at 9 a.m. at Hasbro Children's Hospital.
