Ahmedabad: A cargo firm owner from Shahibaug has accused five of his employees of organizing a fraud, siphoning off a staggering Rs 1.16 crore over two years.

Bhavesh Kabra, 46, who has been running his cargo firm near the city police commissioner's office for two decades, filed a complaint with the Cybercrime police on Thursday. Kabra alleges that his employee, Chetan Modasia, along with other employees Ashok Rao from Bhivandi, Hemant Rao from Andheri, Dhaval Ropia from Jodhpur and Jitendra Rao from Udaipur, manipulated the firm's recharge software to orchestrate the fraud.

Kabra allegedly discovered in 2023 that Modasia was carrying out some financial irregularities in the firm.He told police, "My company operates using a proprietary recharge software, allowing clients to book cargo services after completing a prepaid charge." According to Kabra, the accused manipulated the software, falsely inflating recharge amounts without depositing the corresponding funds into the firm's treasury.

The employees had been allegedly perpetrating the fraud since 2021. Despite promises from the accused to return the money, Kabra claims they failed to do so, prompting him to seek legal intervention. The Cybercrime police have registered a case under various sections of the IPC and the Information Technology Act, including theft, breach of trust, and cheating, against the five men.
