KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Colonel Oscar Derby has resigned as chairman of the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA).

His resignation was confirmed on Friday by Transport Minister Daryl Vaz.

Vaz said Derby's resignation came after a long discussion and is in relation to personal matters unlike what is being speculated in some media reports.

"I see where the media is putting a slant in relation to current investigations by the Integrity Commission which predates Colonel Derby," Vaz said in an audio shared with the media.

"I can confirm that I have received the resignation of Colonel Oscar Derby, former chairman of the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority and this is after a long discussion with me and it has to do with personal matters," he said.

The transport minister also confirmed another resignation but did not reveal the identity of the person.

"I can also confirm that there is another resignation, for personal reasons as well, and I will be going to Cabinet on Monday for the replacements to make sure that continuity of the board continues," Vaz said.

He said the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority will be undergoing major structural reform in the weeks and months to come adding that the public will be updated as it unfolds.
