MANCHESTER, Jamaica -- A drainage obstruction on a private property, believed to be the main cause of the drainage issues on Ward Avenue in Mandeville, has been cleared.

Mayor of Mandeville Donovan Mitchell told Observer Online that following a meeting on Thursday at the Manchester Municipal Corporation, the private property owner's attorney agreed to have the blockage cleared.

"There seems to have been some sort of misunderstanding from both parties. We came up with the decision that we will clear the blockage immediately," he said.

"We cleared it and we are now just watching to see what will happen. It was working up until the time when it got blocked," added Mitchell.

Last week Thursday, Mitchell said he was "tired" of the flooding issue on Ward Avenue, even after an expenditure to remedy the problem.

Mitchell on Friday said legal proceedings were avoided in the matter to have the blockage cleared.

"They (private property owner) know they couldn't win us, so it wouldn't make any sense and going to Supreme Court would be a lot of money, so both parties agreed that we should have the dialogue," said Mitchell.
